What MicroCoach does
MicroCoach is a teaching rehearsal and assessment tool for adult educators. It records video, transcribes audio, provides AI-powered criterion feedback, and helps you reflect on your teaching — entirely on your device.
Data we collect
MicroCoach stores all your data — plans, recordings, transcripts, reflections, and feedback — on your iPhone only. We operate no user accounts and collect no analytics. The one exception is AI feedback: when you explicitly request it and grant consent, the text transcript of your rehearsal is sent to Google's Gemini API to generate criterion-level feedback. Your audio and video recordings are never uploaded and always stay on your device.
Permissions used
- Camera — to record your rehearsal video.
- Microphone — to record audio during rehearsal.
- Speech Recognition — to transcribe your rehearsal for AI feedback. Processing happens on-device via Apple's SFSpeechRecognizer.
- Photos — only if you choose to import an existing video.
- Face ID / Passcode — only if you enable the app lock feature, to secure the screen when handing the device to a peer.
- Notifications — only if you schedule a rehearsal reminder.
AI feedback
Transcription runs entirely on-device using Apple's SFSpeechRecognizer. When you request AI feedback and grant consent, only the resulting text transcript is sent to Google's Gemini API for processing; Google does not use this data to train its models. Your audio and video never leave your iPhone. AI feedback is opt-in — you can decline or revoke consent at any time in Settings, and the app remains fully usable without it.
Third-party services
MicroCoach uses Google's Gemini API solely to generate AI feedback from your transcript text, as described above. It uses no third-party analytics, advertising, or tracking services.
Data deletion
All data is stored in the app's private container on your device. Deleting the app removes all data. You can also delete individual plans, rehearsals, and reflections from within the app.
Children
MicroCoach is intended for adult educators. We do not knowingly collect data from anyone under 13.
